Tyre replacement and puncture repair

BMW Tire Replacement in Dubai

Your tyres are the only part of the car that touches the road, and on a BMW they are matched to the suspension, the brakes and the stability systems. We check whether a tyre can be repaired, fit the right size and type for your model when it cannot, and balance and align the car so the new tyres wear evenly.

First question

Repair or Replace a BMW Tyre?

Not every puncture means a new tyre. Where the damage is, how big it is and whether the tyre was driven flat decide the answer, and we check all three before recommending anything.

Usually repairable

  • A nail or screw in the main tread area
  • A small hole, roughly 6 mm or less
  • One puncture, not several close together
  • Tyre not driven far while flat
  • Plenty of tread left and no bulges

Needs replacing

  • Any damage on the sidewall or shoulder
  • A cut, tear or hole larger than about 6 mm
  • A bulge or bubble in the sidewall
  • Run flat tyre driven a long way with no air
  • Tread worn close to the wear markers

These limits follow common UAE tyre guidance, including the PitStopArabia puncture guide. A tyre is only repaired after we have checked it from the inside.

Time for new tyres

Signs Your BMW Needs New Tyres

Tyres rarely fail all at once. These are the signs that a set is near the end of its life, from the obvious to the easy to miss. If you spot more than one of them, it is worth having all four tyres checked rather than just the one that looks worst.

Low tread depth

The tread is close to the small wear bars in the grooves, and grip in rain drops quickly.

Cracks in the rubber

Fine cracks on the sidewall or between tread blocks from heat and age.

Uneven wear

One edge worn more than the rest, which also points to an alignment problem.

Vibration at speed

A shake through the steering wheel or seat that balancing does not cure.

Bulge on the sidewall

Usually from a pothole or kerb. The tyre structure is damaged and must be replaced.

Tyres over five years old

Rubber hardens with age, especially in Dubai heat, even when tread looks fine.

Know what to ask for

Reading the Sidewall on a BMW Tyre

Everything you need to order the right tyre is printed on the side of the one you have now. This is how to read a typical BMW tyre marking.

225Width

Tyre width in millimetres.

45Profile

Sidewall height as a share of the width.

R18Rim size

Fits an 18 inch wheel.

95YLoad and speed

Load the tyre can carry and its top speed rating.

StarBMW approval

A star symbol means the tyre was developed and approved for BMW.

RSCRun flat

RSC, ROF, SSR or ZP mark a run flat tyre.

DOTAge

The last four digits show the week and year it was made.

Many BMWs use different sizes front and rear, so check both axles before ordering. Sending us a photo of each sidewall is the quickest way to get the right quote, and it also shows us the age of the tyres you have now.

Worth knowing

Star Marked Tyres for BMW

Tyre makers develop special versions of their tyres with BMW, tuned for the weight, suspension and stability systems of each model. These carry a star on the sidewall.

Why it matters

Star tyres are matched to how BMW set up the handling, braking and ride, so the car feels the way it was designed to.

Is it required?

No. Good non star tyres in the correct size and rating fit and work. Many owners still choose star tyres to keep the original feel.

Mixing tyres

Fit the same brand and model across an axle, and ideally across all four wheels, so grip is even on both sides.

The big choice

Run Flat or Standard Tyres?

Most BMWs leave the factory on run flat tyres and have no spare wheel. Some owners switch to standard tyres for comfort. This is how the two compare.

Run flat tyresStandard tyres
After a punctureCan keep driving a limited distance at reduced speedMust stop and change the wheel or use a repair kit

Switching from run flat to standard tyres is your choice. If you do, carry a repair kit or a spare, and keep the tyre pressure monitor working, since it becomes your main warning of a puncture.

When the warning comes on

What to Do After a Run Flat Puncture

A run flat tyre gives you time to reach help, not to finish the week. These steps protect the tyre and the wheel, and they improve the chance that, after a proper check, the tyre can be repaired rather than replaced.

  1. Slow downKeep to a moderate speed and avoid hard cornering and braking.
  2. Check the handbookYour BMW owner manual gives the distance and speed limit for your tyres.
  3. Head for helpDrive to the workshop or a suitable place to stop, or call us and we can arrange collection.
  4. Do not reinflate and ignore itA run flat driven with no air needs an inside check before it goes back on the road.

How the job runs

Our BMW Tyre Replacement Process

Fitting a tyre to a BMW wheel is more than swapping rubber. Large alloys, run flat beads and pressure sensors all need care. A rushed fitting can scratch the rim, crack a sensor or leave a bead that never seats properly, so each step below is done in order.

1

Inspect

Every tyre is checked for damage, tread depth, age and wear pattern, and the wheels for bends or cracks.

2

Quote

You choose the tyre from the options we price for your size, before anything is ordered.

3

Fit

Tyres are fitted on a machine suited to run flats and large alloys, with care around the pressure sensor.

4

Balance

Each wheel is balanced so there is no vibration at motorway speed.

5

Pressures

Set cold to the door pillar figures and the tyre pressure monitor reset.

6

Align

An alignment check, and adjustment if needed, so the new tyres wear evenly.

Why xDrive BMWs Need Matching Tyres

xDrive sends power to both axles and expects all four wheels to turn at almost the same speed. A new tyre is slightly larger than a worn one, so mixing very different tread depths makes the system work against itself.

That strain lands on the transfer case, which is an expensive part to replace. On xDrive cars we look at the tread depth of all four tyres before suggesting whether to replace two or four.

Two tyres

Fine when the other pair still has similar tread depth.

Four tyres

Better when the remaining tyres are well worn.

One tyre

Only when the others are nearly new, so the depths stay close.

Staggered sizes

Cars with wider rear tyres cannot swap front to rear, so each pair wears on its own.

By model

Tyre Fitments Across BMW Models

What we usually see on the models that come through the workshop. Your exact size is on the sidewall and the door pillar label, and it can differ with wheel options and M Sport packs.

1 and 2 SeriesF20, F22, F40

Run flats on most cars, often with wider rear tyres on M Sport versions. Fronts wear quickly on front wheel drive F40 cars.

3 and 4 SeriesF30, G20, G22

Mostly run flats from the factory. Staggered sizes are common on 19 inch wheels, so tyres cannot be rotated front to rear.

5 SeriesF10, G30, G60

Run flats on many cars, with a strong case for star tyres to keep the quiet ride the 5 Series is known for.

X3 and X4G01, G02

Run flat SUV tyres on most cars. xDrive means tread depth should stay close across all four.

X5 and X6F15, G05, G06

Large wheels up to 22 inch, often staggered, and heavy cars that wear tyres faster. Sidewall damage from kerbs is common.

M carsM2, M3, M4, M5

Performance tyres, usually not run flats, with wide rears that wear quickly with spirited driving.

Choosing a tyre

Comfort, Sport or Value Tyres

Most BMW sizes come in three broad types of tyre. The right one depends on how you drive and how long you plan to keep the car, not only on price.

Comfort and touring

Quiet and long lasting

Softer compounds tuned for low noise and long tread life. A good match for 5 Series, 7 Series and X5 owners who spend a lot of time on the motorway.

Sport and performance

Grip and steering feel

Stickier rubber and stiffer sidewalls for sharper turn in and shorter braking. The usual choice for M Sport and M cars, but they wear faster.

Value

Lower upfront cost

Fine for older BMWs and lighter use, as long as the size, load and speed rating match. Grip in heavy rain and noise are where they tend to fall behind.

Whichever type you choose, we stick to the size, load index and speed rating BMW lists for your car, and we price two or three options so you can compare before ordering.

Make them last

Tyre Care in Dubai Heat

Heat, sand and long motorway runs are hard on tyres, and a summer here ages rubber faster than a whole year in a cooler country. These habits help a new set last longer and keep its grip.

Check pressures cold

Set them in the morning to the door pillar figure. Hot tyres read higher.

Look before long trips

Check for cuts and bulges before a drive to Abu Dhabi or the desert.

Park in the shade

Sun on the sidewalls speeds up cracking, especially on a car parked for weeks.

Mind the kerbs

Hitting a kerb can damage the sidewall and bend the rim in one go.

Alignment checks

An alignment check after a hard hit stops uneven wear before it starts.

Keep sensors working

A working pressure monitor warns you of a slow leak early.

FAQ

BMW Tyre Questions From Owners

Quick answers to what we are asked most about BMW tyres.

How much do BMW tyres cost in Dubai?

Published Dubai listings show a 225 45 R18 run flat from about AED 421 to AED 803 per tyre depending on brand, with BMW tyre fitting from AED 190 before VAT. Your price depends on size and brand.

Can a BMW run flat tyre be repaired?

Sometimes. A small tread puncture on a tyre that was not driven far without air may be repairable after an inside check. A run flat driven a long way flat usually needs replacing.

Do I have to fit run flat tyres on my BMW?

No. Many owners switch to standard tyres for comfort. You then need a spare or a repair kit, and a working tyre pressure monitor.

What does the star on a BMW tyre mean?

It shows the tyre was developed and approved for BMW. It is recommended for the original feel but not required.

Should I replace two or four tyres?

On xDrive cars, keep tread depth close on all four, which often means four. On rear drive cars, two on the same axle is usually fine.

How long do BMW tyres last in Dubai?

It depends on the tyre and driving, but heat ages rubber faster. Many guides suggest replacing tyres over five years old even if tread remains.

Why do my front tyres wear on the inside edge?

Usually alignment, often from worn tie rods or control arm bushes. We check these before fitting new tyres so the new set does not wear the same way.

Do new tyres need balancing and alignment?

Every new tyre is balanced. An alignment check is worth doing at the same time, especially if the old tyres wore unevenly.

How do I tell how old my tyres are?

Find the DOT code on the sidewall. The last four digits are the week and year, so 1222 means week 12 of 2022.

Do you collect the car?

Yes. We offer free pickup in Dubai, and the work is done at our Al Quoz workshop, open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm.
