Useful numbers first
BMW 1 Series service and repair prices
Start with a service price, compare the repair budgets, then request one fitted quote.
Engine oil service
Specified engine oil, a new oil filter and the applicable service reset. Oil approval and quantity depend on the engine.
Minor service
Oil service, specified filters, brake and tyre checks, and a battery test. Your quote identifies the filters included.
Major service
A vehicle-specific service with applicable spark plugs, brake fluid and inspection work. Agree the actual due items first.
Repair budgets for common jobs
Indicative BMW repair ranges from our detailed service guides, based on published Dubai and UAE market estimates. These are budgeting guides, not fixed 1 Series offers. The confirmed fault, fitted system and parts determine your quotation.
Engine oil-leak repairs
Valve-cover gasket AED 1,200 to 2,000
Oil-filter-housing gasket AED 1,000 to 1,800
These are gasket jobs. A cracked housing, complete cover or internal engine damage changes the work. See engine repair options and budgets.
Gearbox repair or rebuilding
Valve-body repair AED 3,500 to 8,500
Automatic transmission rebuild AED 9,500 to 22,000
Identify the gearbox and proven fault first. A fluid service, repaired valve body and replacement transmission are different jobs. Replacement units need a separate fitted quote. Compare gearbox repair costs.
Engine water-pump replacement
Mechanical main pump AED 1,200 to 3,000
Electric main pump AED 2,500 to 6,500
Applies to the identified pump type, not every coolant leak. Confirm seals, coolant, labour, bleeding and testing. Thermostats, hoses and overheating damage are separate. See water-pump replacement options.
Suspension component replacement
Conventional dampers AED 1,200 to 2,500 per axle pair
Complete control arm AED 700 to 2,200 per arm
Adaptive dampers and air systems need their own quote. Confirm mounts, hardware, alignment and quantity. Compare suspension repair choices.
Your fitted quotation
The published starting prices vary by engine and equipment. Inclusions are not specified. Request a written total showing the selected parts, quantity, labour, fluids, testing and exclusions.
- Confirm the actual gearbox, pump type or brake package
- Agree further investigation and any charge if you decline repairs
- Compare genuine BMW and suitable OEM parts by manufacturer and part number
Start with what you notice
What is your car doing
Choose the closest symptom, then compare the assessment and relevant repair services below.
The sound is useful information
Tell us how it tries to start
A weak battery is one possibility. The starting and charging systems may need separate checks.
Slow cranking
The engine turns more slowly than usual. Tell us whether a jump start changed it.
A click or no response
Describe the sound and any dashboard change when you try to start.
Cranks without starting
The engine turns but does not fire. That needs a different investigation.
Battery tests and recurring warnings
Battery condition
Assess charge and battery condition with appropriate testing. Age alone does not establish the reason for a starting fault, and a low charge may affect the first test result.
Supply and starting circuit
Inspect relevant terminals, connections and power supply. Where symptoms require it, investigate the charging system or starter circuit rather than replacing the battery by assumption.
A fault that returns after parking
A repeated discharge may require a separate drain investigation after the car has entered its normal resting state. Agree the diagnostic scope and time needed, especially when accessories or intermittent faults are involved.
Tell us about recent jump starts, long periods parked, accessories fitted and previous battery changes. Confirm the correct battery type, capacity, fitment and applicable registration or configuration work. A larger battery is not a universal upgrade.
Choose the work you need
Choose the repair you need
Cabin AC and engine cooling are separate systems. Brake vibration and suspension knocks need different measurements. For windows, mirrors, lights or trim, describe the affected equipment so the advisor can confirm the available work and price.
Different generations different hardware
Find your 1 Series generation
Choose a generation to see why the year and chassis details matter.
Earlier carsE SeriesE81 E87 E82 E88
Older hatchbacks, coupes and convertibles need an age-and-condition assessment alongside the service history. Check cooling-system leaks, seals, suspension joints and electrical condition where symptoms or inspection findings justify it.
Owners of the six-cylinder variants can also use our dedicated 128i repair and 135i repair pages. Coupe and convertible body parts differ from hatchback parts.
When budgeting Trace oil or coolant to its source before ordering parts. A gasket repair and a complete housing or pump replacement have different costs. Body-specific roof and window work on E82 and E88 cars is quoted separately.
Rear-drive generationF20 F21M135i and M140i included
This generation uses a longitudinal engine layout, with rear-wheel drive and xDrive versions in relevant markets. Engine and transmission specification varies through its production life.
An earlier M135i uses a six-cylinder engine; the later M140i is also a six-cylinder model. Do not order M135i parts without the year and chassis details. A performance badge or M Sport trim alone does not establish the brake or gearbox specification.
When budgeting On a six-cylinder M135i or M140i, assess misfire data and targeted ignition or fuel checks before replacing coils or injectors. For an oil leak, distinguish a gasket from a damaged cover. The engine budgets above apply only after the actual job is identified.
Front-drive architectureF40Including M135i xDrive
The third generation changed to a front-wheel-drive-based architecture. Its M135i xDrive uses a four-cylinder engine, unlike the earlier six-cylinder M135i.
Confirm the installed manual, dual-clutch or automatic transmission rather than assuming every 1 Series has the same gearbox. xDrive components and transmission servicing require the correct vehicle-specific procedure.
When budgeting F40 M135i xDrive uses a four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic. Other variants can have different transmissions. A shift complaint needs gearbox identification and fault checks before choosing fluid, valve-body repair or internal work.
Fourth generationF70Confirm market specification
Introduced in 2024, this generation includes different powertrains by market, with 48 V mild-hybrid technology on some versions. Establish the exact vehicle specification before quoting electrical or drivetrain work.
Tell us if the car has manufacturer warranty or a service package. Warranty claims, recalls and entitlement checks belong with the authorised network. Ask us to confirm the independent work available for your particular car.
When budgeting Some F70 versions have 48-volt equipment. A low-voltage or thermal warning requires the exact powertrain and relevant circuits to be identified. Confirm the available procedure before applying a conventional battery or service price.
BMW technical references explain the F20 and F21 six-cylinder models, F40 architecture and transmissions PDF and fourth-generation powertrains. These explain compatibility, not a prediction that your car has a particular fault.
Find the cause of coolant loss
Three parts of a cooling-system assessment
Leaks, circulation and the final recheck answer different questions. Open a check to see what it involves.
If the engine overheats, stop safely and switch it off. Never remove a hot coolant cap. Arrange advice or recovery before continuing.
Locate the leak
Inspect the expansion tank, cap, hoses, radiator connections and other accessible joints. Agree pressure testing when appropriate and identify whether the leak appears only as the system warms up.
A visible leak should be traced to its source before ordering a radiator or pump. Nearby parts can become wet as coolant runs down the engine.
Check circulation
The fitted pump type and control arrangement depend on the engine. Relevant readings and operating checks help assess circulation, temperature control and airflow through the radiator.
Our water-pump assessment explains why replacing a pump is a different job from repairing a hose leak.
Repair and recheck
The repair quote should identify the failed components, applicable coolant and required filling or bleeding procedure. Recheck for leakage and confirm operation after the work.
If the car has overheated, further checks for related damage may be needed. Discuss their purpose and price separately from the initial cooling repair.
One choice changes the procedure
Which gearbox is fitted
Choose the installed unit or ask us to identify it. The badge and selector alone are not enough.
Start with the year and chassis details
Tell us when the fault happens and whether the car moves normally. We confirm the fitted transmission, diagnostic scope and any dismantling charge before choosing parts or fluids.
Manual gearbox and clutch
Difficulty selecting a gear, clutch slip and vibration need checks that distinguish the clutch, its operating system, mounts and gearbox. Ask whether the estimate includes any associated flywheel work and why it is required.
Conventional automatic
For a fluid service, identify the exact unit, specified fluid, filter or pan requirements and filling procedure. For poor shifts, diagnosis comes first. A fluid service and an internal gearbox repair are different scopes of work.
Dual-clutch transmission
Clutch behaviour and control faults require the procedure for the installed transmission. Confirm the proposed mechanical work, fluids and any required setup. Do not apply a conventional automatic service package without checking compatibility.

Your car sets the starting point
A service plan that follows the car
Use the Condition Based Service display, applicable schedule and service records. There is no universal initial, intermediate and major interval for every 1 Series.
Oil and filters
Choose the correct BMW oil approval and quantity for the exact engine. Confirm the oil filter and any engine-air or cabin filters due. The oil and filter service page explains what to compare in a quote.
Time and wear items
Brake fluid, friction parts, tyres and filters need their applicable time, wear or condition checks. Spark-plug requirements apply to petrol engines; diesel fuel-system maintenance follows its own specification.
Gearbox and drivetrain
Check the installed unit, service history and applicable manufacturer procedure. Do not apply one fluid, interval or flushing method to every manual, automatic or dual-clutch gearbox.
A missing service history
Start with the due display, records available and a condition inspection. Agree a priority list so urgent faults and overdue maintenance can be addressed without replacing every consumable at once.
Send a photo of the service display and last service details. A reset records completed work; it does not repair a fault. Our BMW service packages are workshop packages, with the due items confirmed for your vehicle.

Know what you are approving
The details belong in your quote
Compare the work and parts included, then approve the total.

Choose genuine BMW or a suitable OEM option where available. The quote identifies the manufacturer and part number. A complete cover, housing or assembly can cost more than a gasket-only repair. For an engine or gearbox, compare targeted repair, rebuilding and replacement, including the replacement unit's condition.
Request the applicable warranty duration, mileage limit, parts and labour coverage, exclusions and claim process in writing. Further findings need revised approval. Keep the invoice and inspection results. Manufacturer warranty claims and recalls belong to the authorised BMW network.
Before you buy
Inspect the car beyond the badge
Confirm the included checks and report before booking. The findings help you budget before buying.

Six inspection conversations
History and identity
Match chassis details, records, service display and known modifications. Missing history may require baseline checks.
Cold and warm running
Assess starting, idle, warnings and accessible leaks where conditions allow. Record anything requiring further diagnosis.
Road behaviour
Check shifting, braking, steering and ride when a road test is safe. Record conditions that could not be reproduced.
Brakes tyres and underbody
Inspect accessible wear items, suspension and underbody areas. Leaks and worn consumables affect the near-term budget.
Cabin and body equipment
Check agreed windows, mirrors, AC and lights. Coupe or convertible roof checks need a body-specific inspection.
Findings and next costs
Separate urgent faults, further diagnosis and maintenance advisories. Repair estimates are additional to the inspection fee.
Arrange a BMW pre-purchase inspection before paying for a used car, or a condition assessment before a larger repair. An inspection records findings within the agreed scope and cannot guarantee discovery of every hidden or intermittent fault.

How much does a BMW 1 Series service cost
Our published BMW starting prices are AED 350 for oil service, AED 650 for minor service and AED 1,500 for major service. The exact engine and work due determine your quote. Inclusions are not specified. in those starting figures. Request the included work and a fitted total before booking. Repair budget ranges appear separately in the pricing section.
Is every M135i fitted with the same engine
No. The earlier F20 and F21 M135i uses a six-cylinder engine, while the F40 M135i xDrive uses a four-cylinder engine. The year and chassis details matter when choosing parts, oil and repair procedures.
When should I service my 1 Series
Follow the vehicle's service display, applicable schedule and service history. Oil service, brake fluid and wear items can be due at different times. Send the due display and last service records so the advisor can confirm the appropriate tasks.
Does a drivetrain warning mean the gearbox needs replacing
No. The message can relate to different engine or drivetrain systems. A scan and the relevant follow-up tests are needed before choosing a repair. Do not continue driving with severe misfiring, loss of power or another unsafe condition.
Can you work on older coupes and convertibles
Yes, we assess older 1 Series cars, including E82 coupes and E88 convertibles. Bring the year, engine details and service history. Body, roof and drivetrain parts must match the specific vehicle, and parts availability is confirmed before work is agreed.
Can you collect a car that will not start
Free pickup and delivery is available within Dubai. Tell us if the car will not start or is unsafe to drive. Recovery equipment, access and any separate charge must be confirmed before dispatch.
Will you replace parts without asking me
Repair work starts after you approve the quote. Additional testing, dismantling or newly discovered work needs an agreed charge or revised approval. Ask for the proposed parts, labour and applicable warranty terms in writing.
How long will the work take
Timing depends on the fault, tests, access and availability of the correct parts. Ask for an estimated assessment and completion time after the work is identified. A confirmed enquiry or collection arrangement is not a guaranteed same-day repair.
