Confirm the payable total

Market budgets checked on 6 November 2026 against published BMW-specific repair pricing. These are fitted-work references, not labour-only prices. The source does not establish an inclusive VAT basis for every range. Your written quote must show parts, labour, required fluids, VAT and the final payable total.

Machining and hard parts Name the component and machining operation, confirm that the engine specification permits it, and state its allowance. A replacement block, cylinder head, crankshaft, camshaft, connecting rods, pistons or liners is not guaranteed by a rebuild budget. Parts found unusable need an itemised revised total and your approval before extra work.

List any strip-down or reassembly charge, damaged ancillaries, delivery, setup and recovery separately where applicable. Used or exchange assemblies need supplied-contents and core-return conditions. Alternative repair routes are not amounts to add together; count shared access once.

Warning messages

BMW engine warnings and what to do

Read the exact warning and follow the vehicle instructions. Colour alone does not establish that driving is safe. Flashing lights, rough running, smoke, overheating or loss of oil pressure need particular care.

BMW engine warning light on the dashboard
Follow the exact warning and vehicle instructions
Engine oil pressureRed, stop safely

What it can meanThe warning may indicate low oil pressure or a monitoring fault. Treat it as urgent until the cause is established.

What to doStop as soon as it is safe and switch off. Do not restart to test it. Call us and we arrange recovery.

Engine temperature highRed, stop safely

What it can meanPossible causes include coolant loss or a fault with the water pump, thermostat, fan or radiator. A sensor or wiring fault can also set it, so the cause needs testing.

What to doStop safely and let the engine cool. Never open a hot coolant cap. Call us before driving further.

Flashing engine lightYellow, reduce load

What it can meanAn active misfire, often from a coil, spark plug or injector, which can damage the catalytic converter.

What to doReduce engine load and stop in a safe place. If the light keeps flashing, the engine runs roughly or power drops, switch off and arrange recovery rather than continuing to the workshop.

Drivetrain malfunctionYellow, get it checked

What it can meanThe vehicle has detected a powertrain fault and may limit performance. Ignition, fuel or boost faults are possible, but the message alone does not identify the failed system or part.

What to doFollow the displayed instruction. With severe shaking, smoke, overheating or major power loss, stop safely and arrange recovery. Call before continuing if the meaning is unclear. Read more on BMW engine malfunction warnings.

Engine oil level lowYellow, top up

What it can meanNormal oil use, or a leak or oil consumption that is getting worse.

What to doTop up with the correct BMW approved oil and tell us how often it happens. Frequent top ups need checking.

Identify before ordering

BMW engine-code repair comparison

These examples help frame the enquiry; they are not a claim that every engine has these faults. Confirm the installed engine, production details and history, especially after an earlier engine replacement.

Engine familyReported concernEvidence before partsWhat changes the quote
N20 and N26Chain noise or a timing-related concernIdentify the noise and check findings against the exact production variant and applicable timing and oil-pump-drive-chain procedures.Kit revisions, related chain components and access must be listed.
N47Diesel running fault or chain-noise enquiryConfirm the noise source or diesel fuel, air and mechanical findings before selecting components.Engine variant, timing access and the required injection-system work change the quote.
N52Misfire, leak or coolant-loss enquiryMatch fault records to cylinder checks, trace the leak and test the fitted cooling components.A gasket-only job differs from replacing a damaged housing or complete cover.
N54 and N55Boost loss, smoke or rough runningSeparate ignition or fuel concerns from intake leaks, crankcase ventilation and turbo oil-path findings.Confirm turbo layout, quantity, supplied condition and supporting parts.
B48 and B58Oil or coolant loss, misfire or temperature concernTrace the source and use readings or pressure checks relevant to the complaint.Production revision, housings and attached components affect the parts list.
N63Oil-use, smoke or V8 running concernAssess reported consumption, external leaks, ventilation and turbo-related causes before proposing internal work.Generation, access and damage need a separate V8 quotation.

M engines, diesels not shown here and hybrid applications need individual confirmation. Fully electric BMWs have no combustion engine. High-voltage work is a separate capability-confirmed request. BMW's N20 and N26 bulletin covers specified applications and North American warranty terms; it is not a UAE warranty offer.

Findings before major work

Evidence before an engine rebuild

A fault code, noise or oil-use report does not establish that the engine needs replacement. Ask how the test findings support the recommended depth of work.

Oil leak at a BMW valve cover gasket
Trace an accessible leak before selecting a gasket or assembly
  1. Choose the test that answers the concern

For coolant loss, ask where the system leaked or what the pressure test showed. For suspected internal damage, relevant evidence may include oil pressure, compression, leak-down or borescope findings. The quote should explain what has been established and what still needs checking.

  2. Agree inspection before opening the engine

Approve the investigation charge and limits separately from repair. Confirm removal, strip-down and reassembly responsibilities, storage or collection costs, and the amount due if you decline the final repair.

  3. Measure damage and explain the repair

Where internal inspection is justified, record the relevant measurements and compare them with the repair limits for the exact engine before agreeing machining. Ask which parts can remain, which must be renewed and which are not yet priced. Relevant readings and accessible damage photos should explain the recommendation and how the original cause will be corrected.

Oil consumption and mixed fluids need their own checks

External leakage, ventilation, turbo oil paths and engine internals can require different investigations. Oil and coolant contamination also has several possible sources. Neither symptom alone proves that a head gasket or complete engine must be replaced.

Choose the extent of work

Compare your engine repair options

The findings decide whether you need more testing, a focused repair, cylinder-head work or a complete engine solution. Compare the same installed contents and written responsibilities.

OptionWhen to consider itConfirm in the quote
Diagnosis and inspectionThe cause or extent of damage is not yet established.Name the selected tests and their charge. Removal, strip-down and reassembly need separate approval; a fault scan is not a repair.
Targeted component repairFindings identify a local fault that can be repaired without rebuilding the whole engine.Name the failed component, related parts, labour, fluids and final checks. Other internal or supporting-system repairs are included only if listed.
Cylinder-head workTests and inspection support head, valve or sealing work, with the condition of the lower engine also assessed.List removal, head testing, permitted machining, valve or gasket work, reassembly and fluids. A replacement head and lower-engine work are separate unless itemised.
Rebuild the existing engineInternal damage can be repaired within the applicable limits and the retained major components are suitable.List measured condition, machining, renewed and reused parts, removal and refitting. A rebuild does not mean a new block, head, crankshaft or every internal component.
Used replacement engineA compatible donor unit has acceptable source, condition and available test evidence for the proposed job.Record the supplier, known history or mileage, supplied contents, fitting, setup and written cover. Do not assume remaining service life or that every ancillary is included.
Rebuilt or remanufactured replacementA sourced assembly offers a suitable alternative to repairing the original engine.Supplier definitions differ. Obtain the renewed-parts list, test evidence, compatibility, core conditions and fitted quote; the label alone does not mean every part is new.
New replacement assemblyA correctly specified new assembly is available and its fitted cost is suitable for the car.Identify the supplier and exact assembly contents. Short block, long block and complete engine descriptions need a parts list; turbos, injectors, modules and other ancillaries are included only if named.

For confirmed head-gasket or cylinder-head concerns, see the specific head-gasket assessment and repair details. A gasket-only repair and wider cylinder-head restoration are different jobs. Compare testing, permitted machining, removal, parts and fluids before comparing prices.

Correct the original cause too

Check supporting cooling, oil, fuel and turbo systems where they contributed to the failure. An engine purchase price is not a complete fitted repair. Use the price ranges as alternative work levels, not amounts to add together.

Parts

Genuine BMW or suitable OEM parts

Compare genuine BMW and suitable named supplier parts for the exact engine. Your quote identifies the manufacturer, part number, condition and included fitting.

  • Required gaskets, seals and single use fasteners renewed according to the repair procedure
  • Coolant and oil approved for your exact engine
  • Electronic setup only where required and confirmed for the actual repair

Models

Engine repair by BMW model

We assess BMW petrol and diesel engines, including supported M and hybrid applications. Send the VIN or model and year to confirm the fitted engine and available work. A model badge alone cannot determine parts or price. Electric-drive and high-voltage work require a separate assessment and confirmed capability.

Engine components and workshop tools arranged on a workbench

Before you approve

Timing and written cover for your repair

BMW Repair Dubai is an independent AMF workshop at 39 Al Quoz 4, Dubai, open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm. Your repair agreement should identify the work, supplier responsibilities and completion estimate.

Agree the inspection and repair dates

Agree when the initial checks can be done. An accessible seal repair can be scheduled once the fault and parts are confirmed. Cylinder-head work or a rebuild needs separate time for removal, measurements, possible machining and final checks. For a sourced engine, include delivery and compatibility checks in the estimate.

Record the parts and labour cover

Ask for the covered parts and labour, start date, duration or mileage limit, and claim contact. For a rebuild or supplied engine, confirm who pays for removal and refitting if a covered fault returns.

Identify external suppliers

For machining or a sourced engine, confirm who supplies and warrants that work, any core condition, and whether removal or refitting is covered if a claim arises. A parts-only promise may leave labour outside cover.

Free driver pickup and delivery are arranged within Dubai. For a non-drivable car, confirm suitable recovery and any charge before dispatch. Retain the test findings, approved quote and invoice. Check the workshop location.

How much does BMW engine repair cost in Dubai?

Our fault-code scan and report start from AED 150. Fitted-work market budgets include oil-leak repairs at AED 700 to 3,500, timing-chain work at AED 5,500 to 11,500 and engine rebuilding at AED 12,000 to 28,000. These are not fixed offers. Confirm the exact engine, inclusions, exclusions, VAT and payable total before approval.

What does the AED 150 engine scan include?

A fault-code scan with a report. Mechanical tests, dismantling, machining and repair are separate. Agree any further diagnostic stage and its charge before work proceeds.

Can I drive with an engine warning or serious noise?

Follow the exact vehicle instruction. Stop safely with an oil-pressure or overheating warning, severe knocking, persistent flashing, rough running or major power loss. Switch off where instructed and arrange recovery; do not restart simply to test the fault.

Does a rattle or smoke mean I need an engine rebuild?

No. The source and operating conditions need checking. Timing components, accessories and other systems can produce noises; smoke or oil use also needs its own diagnosis. Relevant mechanical findings should explain why a limited repair is suitable or why internal inspection is needed.

Should I rebuild or replace my BMW engine?

Compare the confirmed damage, reusable major components, machining, compatible unit availability and complete installed cost. A rebuilt, remanufactured, used or new unit must have its condition, supplied contents and written coverage stated separately.

Is cylinder-head repair the same as an engine rebuild?

No. Cylinder-head work addresses the quoted head, valves or sealing components; a complete rebuild can involve the lower engine as well. Test findings and measurements should explain which work is needed. A head gasket alone, head restoration and replacement of a damaged head have different contents and prices.

Does a rebuild price include every major engine part?

No blanket inclusion should be assumed. The quote must identify approved machining and the parts renewed or retained. An unusable block, head, crankshaft or other major component can change the total. Additional parts and work need an itemised revision and approval.

What if I decline the repair after dismantling?

Agree the inspection charge, what will be opened, and removal, reassembly, storage or collection responsibilities before dismantling. Authorising inspection does not authorise an open-ended repair bill.

How long will the repair take?

Diagnosis, access, parts supply, machining and findings determine the completion estimate. Agree a date for the quoted work and how changes will be approved. No universal same-day or fixed rebuild turnaround is promised.

What warranty applies to engine work?

Obtain the terms for the specific repair and supplied parts before approval: covered work, start date, duration or mileage limit, exclusions and claim contact. Confirm any removal and refitting responsibility for a supplier claim. Workshop cover is separate from BMW manufacturer warranty.

Do you assess diesel, M and hybrid engines?

Send the model, production year, mileage and symptoms so the fitted engine and available work can be confirmed. Hybrid high-voltage work needs separate capability confirmation. Fully electric BMWs have no combustion engine.

Is recovery included in free pickup?

Free driver pickup and delivery are arranged in Dubai. A vehicle that cannot be driven safely needs a suitable recovery method and any separate charge confirmed before dispatch.
