Rear windscreen, door and quarter glass

BMW Rear Window Replacement in Dubai

A shattered rear windscreen leaves your BMW open to dust, heat, rain and theft, and a broken rear door glass is no better when the car is parked outside. We replace BMW rear glass with the correct heater, antenna and tint for your model, remove loose fragments from accessible affected areas and seal the new glass properly.

Parts and fitting

BMW rear window replacement cost in Dubai

The fitted price depends on which window is damaged, the glazing specification, parts availability and any additional work. Send the model and year, a photo showing the window location and a close-up of the damage. VIN details may be needed to identify the correct part.

Rear windscreen or bonded quarter glass

Confirm the glass manufacturer and specification, removal, bonding materials, required trims and fitting. Corrosion or a distorted opening needs assessment before new glass is installed.

Rear door glass

Include removal of accessible fragments, fitting and adjustment. A regulator, motor, damaged channel or electrical fault is separate work and should be identified before extra parts are approved.

Tailgate or convertible window

Confirm the body style, roof type, opening mechanism and fitted equipment. A roof-window repair may involve seals or the roof assembly rather than a glass-only replacement.

Ask for a written total covering glass, labour, adhesive or seals, required clips, cleanup and applicable taxes. Confirm any tint-film work, recovery charges and exclusions separately. Additional damage found during removal should be explained before extra work begins.

Know the glass

Which BMW rear window is broken?

Rear window can mean several different pieces of glass on a BMW. Each one is fitted in a different way, uses a different part and needs a different repair. Telling us which one is damaged, or simply sending a photo, speeds up the quote and helps us order the right part the first time.

1

Rear windscreen

The large glass at the back of saloons and coupes, bonded into the body with urethane so it also adds stiffness to the rear of the car.

Heater grid, antenna, sometimes tint
2

Rear door glass

The drop glass in each rear door, raised and lowered by the window regulator and guided by felt channels.

Fitted inside the door
3

Quarter glass

Small fixed glass behind the rear door on many models, often bonded or clipped into the door frame or body.

Often part of the door frame
4

Convertible and tailgate glass

Glass in a soft top or a tailgate on X models and Tourings, each with its own fitting method and seals.

Model specific

More than glass

What is built into BMW rear glass

A BMW rear windscreen is not a plain sheet of glass. The thin lines you can see are working parts, and a replacement must carry the same features or something will stop working once it is fitted. This is also why two pieces of glass that look identical can be very different in price.

Heater grid

Clears mist and condensation. Its connections and electrical supply must be checked for the fitted system.

Radio antenna

Many BMWs use antenna lines in the rear glass. Poor reception may involve connectors, antenna lines, an amplifier or wiring and needs diagnosis.

Factory tint and shade band

Some rear glass is darker from the factory, and tint film added later must follow UAE rules.

Wiper, washer and brake light

Tourings and X models carry a rear wiper and washer, and some cars have a high brake light near the glass.

How it happens

Why BMW rear glass breaks

Many rear windows use toughened glass, which can shatter into small pieces. Identify the actual glazing from the part specification and markings; different rear and rear-side windows do not all use the same construction. The glazing type and cause of damage must be identified before deciding on repair or replacement.

Impact

Stones and debris

Gravel thrown up by a lorry or a stone flicked from the road can hit rear glass hard enough to break it, often on the highway.

Accident

Rear collision

A knock to the boot, bumper or rear pillar can twist the opening and break the glass, even at low speed.

Break in

Theft attempts

Rear door and quarter glass are common targets for break ins on parked cars.

Stress

Poor previous fitting

Glass set under stress after an earlier repair, or a frame bent in a past accident, can break later without a clear impact.

Identify the glazing before deciding. Damaged toughened glass is normally replaced rather than resin repaired. Laminated glazing requires assessment of the damage and applicable repair limits. Plastic convertible windows need a separate approach.

Right after it breaks

What to do when your rear glass breaks

A broken rear window is stressful, especially if it happens away from home or late at night. These steps keep you, your passengers and your interior safe until the glass is replaced.

1

Stay clear of shards

Keep hands, pets and children away from loose pieces on the seats, floor and parcel shelf.

2

Take photos

Photograph the damage, the inside of the car and the area for your records and your insurer.

3

Check your insurance

Ask your insurer what they need for a glass claim, such as a police report, before any work starts.

4

Cover the opening

Keep the car sheltered if possible. Do not reach through unstable glass. Ask for help securing the opening; any temporary covering must avoid damage to paint and does not make the vehicle roadworthy.

5

Arrange pickup

Send a photo and tell us whether the vehicle is safely parked. Confirm whether it needs recovery rather than a driver collection.

Do not drive with unstable glass, loose fragments or damage that makes the vehicle unsafe. Keep passengers away from the affected area and arrange an assessment and suitable recovery. A temporary cover does not make the car safe to drive.

Rear doors

Rear door glass or window regulator?

When a rear door window drops, jams or makes a grinding noise, the glass itself is often fine. The cause may involve the regulator, motor, wiring, switches or guides. Inspect the mechanism and glass before pricing the work. These symptoms guide inspection; they do not confirm a failed part on their own.

Not broken but not right

Rear window leaks, noise and mist

Some rear glass problems have nothing to do with a break. A poor seal or a dead heater grid can be just as annoying, and they often show up after an earlier glass job that was rushed.

Water in the boot

Damp carpet, a musty smell or water marks under the rear glass after rain or a car wash.

Locate the leak before choosing a repair

Wind noise at speed

A whistle from the back of the car on the highway, often from a gap in the seal or trim.

Find the gap and refit the trim

Rear glass will not clear

Mist stays on the glass on humid mornings because the heater grid is not working.

Test connectors, fuse and grid lines

Poor radio reception

Stations fade or crackle after glass work, which requires checking the antenna system and disturbed connections.

Test the antenna circuit and connections

Bubbling tint

Old tint film lifting, bubbling or turning purple on the rear glass in the sun.

Remove carefully without cutting the grid

Rattle from the back

A loose trim panel, blind or broken clip near the glass after earlier work.

Refit trims with new clips

Our process

How we replace BMW rear glass

The glass is only part of the job. Thorough fragment cleanup, preparing the frame and connecting the heater and antenna properly is what makes the new window quiet, dry and fully working.

Confirm the glass

Correct part found by chassis number, with heater, antenna, tint and wiper options checked before ordering.

Protect and strip

Seats and paint covered, then rear trims, the parcel shelf and any blind removed with care so clips are not broken.

Clear the fragments

Broken glass vacuumed from the cabin, boot, seat rails and door channels.

Prepare the frame

Bonding surfaces inspected for contamination, corrosion and previous damage, then prepared using the vehicle and adhesive-system instructions. Required primers and preparation depend on the substrate.

Fit and connect

Glass set in place with even gaps, then heater and antenna connectors fitted and trims refitted.

Test and cure

Relevant heater, antenna, wiper and seal checks completed. For bonded glass, the minimum drive-away time and separate washing and aftercare instructions are confirmed before release.

Your options

Choosing the right replacement glass

There is usually more than one glass option for a BMW rear window. They differ in price, availability and how closely they match the original, so we explain the choice for your model before ordering.

Option 1

Genuine BMW glass

Supplied through BMW parts channels with the BMW marking on the glass.

  • Correct part number and features confirmed
  • Required heater and antenna specification checked
  • Confirm availability and sourcing time
Option 2

Check the manufacturer's specification

Glass offered without BMW branding. A supplier's original-equipment history does not prove that a particular replacement has identical specifications; confirm the actual manufacturer and part.

  • Fit and required features checked for this vehicle
  • Compare the supplied part and fitted total
  • Features confirmed before ordering
Option 3

Aftermarket glass

Non-BMW-branded glass with specification and features varying by manufacturer. Confirm compatibility before ordering.

  • Compare the actual fitted quotation
  • Heater or antenna layout can differ
  • Tint shade may not match exactly

By model

Rear glass work across BMW models

Rear glass differs between saloons, coupes, Tourings, convertibles and X models. Body style and fitted equipment determine which replacement is suitable. If yours is not listed, send the model and year and we will check the glass for it.

After the new glass

Caring for new rear glass in Dubai

For bonded glass, follow the stated release time and written aftercare for the adhesive used. These instructions differ from mechanically retained door glass and from convertible roof windows.

After fitting

Avoid slamming doors and the boot

Follow the installer's instructions for door and tailgate use during curing. Avoid slamming them.

Washing

Skip the car wash

High pressure water on a fresh seal should be avoided until it has cured.

Tint

Wait before tinting

Follow the glass installer's adhesive instructions and the film installer's requirements before tinting. Confirm the permitted film for the vehicle. See our BMW window tint page.

Cleaning

Wipe along the grid lines

Use a soft cloth and avoid scrapers or razor blades on the inside so the heater and antenna lines are not cut.

Ongoing

Mention leaks early

If you notice damp or wind noise, have the seal checked rather than waiting.

Related work

Other BMW glass and body repairs

Rear glass damage often comes with other work, especially after a break in or a rear knock. These pages cover the jobs that usually go with it, and several can be done in the same visit.

Before collection

Fitment checks and a clear release time

Confirm what is fitted

Check the VIN, production version, body style and existing glass markings against the quoted part. Factory privacy glass and added tint film are different. Confirm heater and antenna features, wiper openings and any separate-opening tailgate arrangement where fitted.

Check the affected functions

Inspect alignment and seals, and test relevant disturbed connections. Door glass may need adjustment and applicable window-function checks. A heater or reception fault present before replacement may need diagnosis beyond fitting new glass.

Know when you can leave

Parts sourcing, installation time and minimum drive-away time are separate. For bonded glass, release follows the adhesive product instructions and installation conditions. Washing, tinting and other restrictions can continue after the vehicle is released.

Keep the invoice showing the supplied glass and completed work. Ask which parts and workmanship warranty terms apply, including exclusions and how to report leaks, noise or a function concern. A controlled leak check should follow the installation instructions.

Our independent BMW workshop is at 39 Al Quoz 4, Dubai, open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm. Confirm collection arrangements for your booking. Driver pickup and recovery of an unsafe vehicle are different services.

How much does BMW rear window replacement cost in Dubai?

The fitted price depends on the exact window, glass specification, parts route and additional work. Send photos with your model and year. Ask for glass, labour, materials, cleanup, taxes and exclusions to be shown in the quotation.

Is it safe to drive with a broken rear window?

Do not drive with unstable glass, loose fragments or damage that makes the vehicle unsafe. Keep occupants away from the affected area and arrange assessment and suitable recovery. A temporary cover does not make the vehicle roadworthy.

When can I drive after rear glass replacement?

For bonded glass, the installer must confirm the minimum drive-away time for the adhesive and installation conditions. This is separate from parts lead time and later washing or tinting restrictions. Mechanically retained glass follows its applicable fitting checks.

Can a chip in rear glass be repaired?

Identify the glazing first. Damaged toughened glass is normally replaced rather than resin repaired. Laminated glazing requires assessment against repair limits. Plastic convertible windows need a different assessment.

Will the heater and antenna work after replacement?

The replacement must have the correct features and the relevant connections must be checked. Existing grid, wiring, amplifier or power-supply faults may require separate diagnosis; new glass alone does not guarantee every function is restored.

My rear door window dropped but is not broken — what happens next?

Inspect the glass, supports, regulator, guides and relevant electrical system. Depending on the fault, the existing glass may be reusable. Do not keep operating a jammed or loose window.

Does water in the boot mean the rear glass needs replacing?

No. The leak source must be located. Glass bonding, body seams, drains and other seals can be involved. Replacement or resealing should follow the findings rather than the presence of damp carpet alone.

Can I choose genuine or aftermarket glass?

Ask which products are available for the exact vehicle. Confirm the actual manufacturer, part specification, features, tint and warranty. A supplier's original-equipment history does not establish that every product is identical to BMW-branded glass.

Can you replace a convertible rear window?

The roof type and window material must be identified first. Glass, plastic windows, seals and roof assemblies need different parts and repair methods. Availability and the appropriate work are confirmed after assessment.

When can I wash or tint the car?

Follow the written adhesive and installation instructions for washing, and coordinate tinting with the glass and film installers. Confirm the permitted film for the vehicle. There is no single waiting period for every installation.

What should I send for a quotation?

Send the model and year, a wider photo showing which window is affected, a close-up of the damage and whether the vehicle is safely parked. Describe any leaks or failed functions. VIN information may be needed for fitment.

Can you help with collection or insurance arrangements?

Ask about collection availability and suitable recovery if the vehicle is unsafe to drive. Check your insurer's approval and documentation requirements before authorising claim-related work. Coverage and payment depend on your policy.
