Glass or painted cap
Confirm the glass specification and backing, or the cap finish. The quotation should identify the part, fitting and any preparation or painting.
A clipped mirror in a tight car park, a cracked glass after a parking bump or a mirror that stopped folding all make a BMW harder to drive with confidence. Our independent Al Quoz workshop checks the damage and explains whether glass, a cap, a repairable component or a complete assembly is needed. Get a fitted quotation before you approve the work.
Your fitted quotation
The price depends on the damaged part and the equipment fitted to your BMW. Send your model, year, left or right side and clear photos. We can give an initial assessment, then confirm the required work after inspection and part identification.
Free pickup in Dubai is available. If the mirror is unstable or visibility is impaired, ask us to confirm suitable recovery arrangements before collection.
Confirm the glass specification and backing, or the cap finish. The quotation should identify the part, fitting and any preparation or painting.
Testing establishes whether the fault involves the motor, mechanism, wiring or controls. Agree the diagnostic charge and repair price before work.
Confirm which glass, cap, lights, motors and camera components are included or transferred. Paint and vehicle-specific camera procedures may be separate.
Ask for parts, labour, paint, clips and seals, required electrical or camera work and applicable taxes to be itemised. Any additional mounting or door damage needs a revised quotation and your approval. Confirm availability, expected completion and written warranty terms before ordering.
What sits inside
A BMW door mirror is a small electrical unit with its own motors, heater and lights, all packed behind a painted cap. Knowing which part has failed is the difference between a quick glass swap and a full unit, so this is where every diagnosis starts.
The painted outer cover. It often clips off and can be replaced on its own.
Clips onto a backing plate, usually with heater wires and, on some cars, dimming wires.
Moves the glass up, down, left and right from the door switch or the seat memory.
Folds the mirror in and out and holds the whole unit to the door.
Turn signal in the cap, plus a ground light underneath on many models.
Blind spot lamp in the glass or housing and, on some cars, a side camera underneath.
Smallest fix first
Many owners expect to buy a full mirror when only the glass is broken. Working through the damage in this order keeps the bill as small as the fault allows.
The glass is cracked or the cap is scuffed, but the mirror still folds, adjusts, heats and signals properly.
Lowest costThe mirror looks fine but one function has stopped, such as folding, adjusting, the indicator or the heater.
Part repairThe base is broken, the mirror hangs from its wires or several parts are damaged at the same time.

Symptoms
These are the mirror problems BMW owners bring to us most often in Dubai, with the cause we usually find behind each one. A quick check confirms which applies to your car before any part is ordered.
Glass broken in a knock or fallen out after a hit.
Usually a glass swapSwitch works but the glass stays still or moves one way only.
Adjust motor or switchOne or both mirrors stay out when you lock the car or press the fold button.
Folding motor or settingThe view vibrates at speed or the mirror sits at an odd angle.
Fold unit or base damageTurn signal in the mirror cap is dark, dim or flashing fast.
Indicator unit or wiringDriver side auto dimming glass stays dark or shows a liquid mark.
Dimming glass failedMirror heating does not clear mist on humid winter mornings.
Heater pad or connectorWind noise near the mirror on the highway.
Base seal or loose capA blind spot or camera message on the dash after a mirror knock.
Sensor, camera or wiringPower folding
Electric folding mirrors are handy in narrow Dubai car parks, and they are also the part that suffers most when a mirror is pushed by hand, knocked by a passer by or folded against a wall. Not every folding fault means a new mirror.
A knocked mirror may have a displaced mechanism or damaged mounting. Do not force or repeatedly cycle a loose or grinding mirror. Any reset or initialization must follow the procedure for that vehicle after damage is assessed.
A fault on one side can involve the mechanism, motor, local wiring, connectors or control signals. We check the supply and commands as appropriate before recommending a part.
If both mirrors stop at once, we check the switch, fuse, wiring and car settings before blaming the mirrors. Fold on lock is a setting in the car menu on many models.
Grinding or clicking can indicate worn gears, an obstruction or mechanism damage. Stop repeated operation and have the assembly checked before more damage occurs.

Driver assistance
On newer BMWs the side mirror carries more than glass. When a mirror is replaced, these features must be matched to your car or they may stop working or show a warning.
On equipped BMWs, a small camera beneath each mirror helps build the top view shown when parking. The replacement must match the correct camera, mount and wiring.
Follow the vehicle-specific repair procedure to establish whether initialization or calibration is required. An on-screen picture check does not replace it.
Confirm the camera displays on the screen after fitting.
Check the top view image from both mirror cameras.
Check fault memory for camera-related messages.
The mirror lamp displays a warning from the vehicle’s blind-spot detection system. It is separate from the radar sensors that detect vehicles. Check the lamp, wiring and relevant system faults.
Built into the cap on most modern BMWs, and easy to crack in a knock.
Automatically darkening glass where fitted. Confirm the equipped side and specification rather than assuming all BMW mirrors have it.
A heater pad behind the glass that clears mist and condensation.
Mirror positions saved with the seat memory, and a passenger mirror that tilts down when reversing on many models, both rely on the adjust motor working properly.
How it happens
Side mirrors stick out further than any other part of the car, so they take the first hit in tight spaces. These are the situations we hear about most from BMW owners in Dubai.

Tight turns in multi storey car parks and mall basements catch the mirror against concrete.
A passing van, bike or delivery rider hits a mirror left out on a narrow street.
Mirrors not folded before a machine wash can be forced the wrong way.
Two cars sharing a narrow lane in slow traffic can touch mirrors.
Years of strong sun can dry out seals and make plastic caps and clips brittle.
Finish
Replacement caps may be supplied primed, prefinished or as a different trim material. Confirm the supplied finish and any painting needed for your car. Some owners also choose a contrasting finish to change the look. Each option has its own work involved.
Painted to your paint code and checked against the door next to it before fitting.
A popular finish that suits many colours and hides small marks on dark cars.
Carbon fibre or carbon look caps, chosen for M models and sport styling.
Matte and special colours need extra care to match the rest of the car.
Our process
A mirror job can look simple from outside, but the door trim, clips, wiring and camera all need care. This is the order we follow.
Check fitted functions and read relevant faults when needed.
Part matched to your car by chassis number and features.
New cap painted to your colour when needed.
Access mounting points as required, protecting trim and checking clips.
Mirror fitted, wiring plugged in and the seal seated.
Folding, adjusting, heating, lights and camera checked.

Correct parts first
Appearance alone is not enough. Genuine, used original and aftermarket parts all need compatibility checks before ordering. Confirm availability and the supported parts option for your car with us.
Confirm the VIN, build date, body style and left or right side. Market specification and steering configuration can affect the correct glass or assembly.
Check glass shape and curvature, backing, connectors, heating, dimming, electric adjustment, folding, memory, warning lamp and any surround-view camera.
An assembly may exclude the glass, painted cap, camera or other components. Existing parts can only be transferred when compatible and in serviceable condition.
For a new genuine part, verify the correct part number and supplied finish. For used parts, inspect mounting points, mechanism wear, wiring and each required function. For aftermarket parts, verify the manufacturer’s specification and supported features. Compare the complete fitted total and get the applicable parts and labour warranty, exclusions and claim process in writing.
By model
Mirror designs change between generations, and the same model can carry very different mirrors depending on its options. These are the models we see most often for mirror work.
Cracked glass, broken caps and folding motors from car park knocks.
Folding faults, dimming glass and side cameras on newer cars.
Large mirrors that get clipped often, with blind spot and camera options.
Glass, caps and indicators, plus loose mirrors after knocks.
Camera, folding and other equipped functions must be matched to the exact vehicle.
Coupe and Gran Coupe body styles need separate fitment checks. Confirm the generation, equipment and cap finish.
Confirm the fitted camera, memory and dimming options for the specific vehicle.
Mirror glass, folding units and caps on classic models.
After a knock
If someone else damaged your mirror, a few early steps make an insurance claim easier and protect the door until the repair is done.
Photograph the mirror, the door and the area around the car before anything is moved.
Check what your insurer needs for a claim, such as a police report, before any work starts.
Keep clear of broken glass and do not pull exposed wiring. A hanging mirror needs assessment and safe securing by a competent technician before transport.
Do not drive if the mirror is unstable, has loose glass or no longer provides a usable view. A short journey does not remove these risks. Contact us about assessment and suitable recovery.
Send photos and your location without touching unstable parts. We offer free Dubai pickup; confirm whether the vehicle needs recovery instead of driver collection, and agree any separate arrangements or charges.
Ask about safe collectionRelated work
A mirror knock often leaves other marks behind, and some mirror symptoms point to other parts of the car. These pages cover the jobs that most often go with mirror work.
Before you collect
Parts sourcing, paint preparation and fitting are separate stages. Confirm the expected completion time after the correct part and repair work have been identified.
Keep the approved quotation with the chosen part, included components, paint work and any required coding, initialization or calibration. Additional faults need approval before extra work.
Check secure mounting, adjustment, fitted folding and memory functions, heating, lights and camera operation as applicable. Assess the seal and trim fit and explain remaining or unrelated faults.
Ask for the invoice, fitted part details, completed checks, relevant camera-procedure record and written warranty terms. Follow any finish-care instructions after painting.
39 Al Quoz 4, Dubai. Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm. Call or send photos to discuss your BMW, the affected side and available collection arrangements. A photo enquiry starts the assessment; final work and timing are confirmed with you.
The fitted price depends on whether you need glass, a cap, a component repair or a complete assembly, and on the fitted equipment. Send your model, year, affected side and photos. Confirm parts, labour, paint, any required camera work, taxes and exclusions in the quotation.
Often, if the glass is the only damaged part and its backing, adjustment mechanism and housing are serviceable. The replacement must match the correct shape, curvature and fitted heating or dimming functions.
Possible causes include settings, operating protection, supply or wiring faults and a damaged folding mechanism or motor. Inspection and model-specific testing establish the cause. Do not repeatedly operate a grinding or loose mirror.
The correct warning lamp and connections must be retained or replaced and checked. The lamp displays warnings from a separate detection system; fitting a mirror alone will not resolve every blind-spot system fault.
The requirement depends on the vehicle and the repair performed. Follow the applicable BMW procedure for camera replacement, disturbed mounting, initialization and calibration. A clear picture on the display alone does not confirm that every required procedure is complete.
Confirm whether the part is primed, prefinished or needs painting. Where painting is included, the paint code and surrounding finish guide the match. Agree any limitations before work.
Do not drive if the mirror is unstable, has loose glass or no longer provides a usable view. Keep clear of broken glass and exposed wiring. Send photos for assessment and confirm suitable recovery arrangements when the vehicle is unsafe to drive.
It may be suitable if the exact fitment, required functions and condition are verified. Check mounting points, mechanism wear, wiring and included components, and confirm the applicable warranty before buying.
Persistent discolouration or a liquid-like mark can indicate deterioration of auto-dimming glass. Inspection distinguishes glass damage from electrical dimming faults. Avoid contact with leaking material or broken glass.
Timing depends on part availability, damage, painting and any required electrical or camera procedures. Ask for the sourcing lead time and workshop fitting time separately. A completion time should be confirmed after the part and work are identified.
Send the BMW model and year, left or right side, photos from the front and side and a description of which functions still work. VIN details may be needed privately to identify the correct part. Do not handle loose glass to take a photo.
We offer free pickup in Dubai to our Al Quoz workshop. If visibility or loose parts make the car unsafe, confirm suitable recovery rather than driver collection. Agree the arrangements and any separate recovery charge before transport.
Confirm the written warranty for the chosen part and labour before approving the quotation. New, used and aftermarket parts may have different terms. Keep the invoice, coverage period, exclusions and claim instructions.
