BMW scratch repair cost in Dubai

A shallow gloss-paint mark, a paint chip and a deep scratch across two panels need different work. Request a fitted quote for the affected area, with the expected result explained before you approve it.

01

Polishing without repainting

For suitable shallow defects on gloss paint. The quote should identify the panel or area, preparation and correction limits. If safe removal is not possible, agree whether improvement alone meets your expectations.

Ask what can safely remain
02

Touch-up or local repair

For selected chips and smaller damage. A touch-up may leave a visible texture or colour difference. Local refinishing depends on damage position, finish and the paint-system procedure.

Compare appearance with cost
03

Panel repainting

For damage that needs a larger refinish. Confirm the panels included, preparation, colour matching, clear coat or matte finish, and any adjacent-panel blending before work starts.

What your quote should include

Affected panels, preparation, materials, labour and applicable VAT. Identify dent or corrosion repair, trim removal, sensor-related work and coating or film replacement separately where needed.

A photo estimate is provisional. Cleaning and inspection may reveal paint transfer, earlier repairs or damage beyond the visible line. Any changed scope should be explained before approval.

How Deep Is Your BMW Scratch?

Repair choice depends on depth, size, location, finish and existing paint condition. On a typical gloss-painted panel, damage may affect the clear coat, colour, primer or substrate. Inspection helps establish whether correction is suitable or refinishing is needed.

The fingernail test

A gentle fingernail check is only a rough indication of surface damage, not a measurement of paint depth.

  1. Wash and dry the scratched area so dirt does not hide the line.
  2. Run a fingernail gently across the scratch, not along it.
  3. A smooth-feeling mark may be shallow or surface transfer, but this does not confirm the damaged layer.
  4. A catching nail does not prove that the scratch has passed through the clear coat. Have the cleaned area assessed before sanding or polishing.

Look at the colour

A pale line can be a scratch, residue or transferred material. Paint, primer and plastic colours vary, so colour alone cannot establish depth. Share a close-up and a wider panel photo in good light; a firm repair recommendation may still need an in-person inspection.

Polish, Touch Up or Respray?

We choose the smallest repair that gives a result you are happy with, which keeps as much original factory paint on your BMW as possible. The agreed repair should balance appearance, coating condition and how much refinishing is appropriate.

Getting the colour right

BMW Paint Codes and Colour Matching

Every BMW carries a paint code that identifies its colour, usually on a label in the door shut or under the bonnet. The code is the starting point, but faded paint, metallic flake and different factory batches mean the final shade is checked against your car before it goes on.

Solid colours

Plain colours such as Alpine White. The easiest to touch up and blend, though white still shows any shade difference.

Metallic colours

Flakes in the paint catch light, so application technique and colour variant affect the match. Test the appearance against the existing finish.

Pearl and special colours

Extra layers give depth and colour shift, and they need more care to match colour and appearance.

Frozen matte colours

Matte finishes cannot be polished like gloss paint and need a specialist approach and products.

Frozen paint owners, please note. Polishing or waxing a matte BMW finish can leave shiny patches that are hard to reverse, so tell us if your car has frozen paint before any work starts.

Where it happens

Common Scratch Spots on a BMW

Most scratches on BMWs in Dubai land in the same few places. Parking structures, tight spaces, sand and everyday use all leave their marks in predictable spots, and many of them can be protected once repaired.

1

Bumper corners

Pillars, walls, bollards and kerbs in tight car parks.

2

Door edges

Opening into walls, pillars and other cars in narrow bays.

3

Handle cups

Rings, keys and nails behind the door handles.

4

Sills and lower doors

Sand, gravel, kerbs and shoes when getting in.

5

Wheels

Kerb rash when parallel parking or turning tight.

6

Boot lip

Bags, suitcases and shopping when loading the boot.

Not every mark is a scratch

Marks That Look Like Scratches

Some of the marks owners send us are not scratches at all. Knowing the difference matters, because several of them clean or polish away for much less than a paint repair, and some get worse if treated the wrong way.

Swirl marks

Fine circles in the clear coat from brush washes and dry cloths. Most visible in direct sun on dark colours. Suitable gloss paint can often be improved by controlled polishing; the coating condition limits correction.

Paint transfer

Another car, pillar or wall rubbed onto yours. Transferred material may be removable, but it can conceal scratches or damage beneath it. Clean and assess before choosing correction.

Water spots

Mineral rings left by hard water drying fast in the heat. Some deposits can be cleaned away. Etching requires assessment, with the finish and remaining coating determining the options.

Bird droppings

Etched marks where droppings baked in the sun. Early removal helps, while older etching needs polishing or paint.

Stone chips

Small craters on the bonnet, bumper and mirrors from highway grit. Touch-up or refinishing may be appropriate. Film helps protect a sound finish but does not repair missing paint.

Key marks

Long, deep lines along doors and wings, with depth and length varying from mark to mark. Inspect each affected panel before deciding whether repainting is needed.

Plastic panels

BMW Bumper Scratches and Scuffs

Bumpers take more scrapes than any other panel, especially the corners in tight Dubai car parks. They are plastic rather than metal, so they flex, and they carry sensors that must keep working after any paint work.

01

Scuffs with paint transfer

Often just another surface rubbed onto your bumper, such as a wall or another car. Much of it polishes away.

02

Scrapes through the paint

Preparation, adhesion treatment, primer and refinishing are selected for the plastic and paint system. The repair method depends on the substrate and damage.

03

Gouges and splits

Assess the plastic, damage location, attachment points and sensor areas. Repair or replacement depends on the applicable repair limits, not simply whether a split is visible.

04

Parking sensors

Parking sensors and radar-related areas need vehicle-specific refinishing procedures. Check permitted coatings, repair limits and any testing or calibration requirements for affected equipment.

05

Cracked or loose bumper

If the bumper is also hanging, misaligned or cracked through, see our BMW bumper repair page.

Beyond the paintwork

Scratched Rims and Interior Marks

Scratches are not only on body panels. Kerbed wheels and marked cabin surfaces bother owners just as much, and both need their own methods and materials.

Wheels

Rim scratches and kerb rash

Alloy wheels pick up kerb marks on the outer edge, often on the passenger side. Light marks can be smoothed and refinished, while bent or cracked wheels need a closer look before any cosmetic work.

  • Kerb rash on painted and machined alloys
  • Diamond cut faces need specialist lathe refinishing
  • Bent or cracked wheels checked for safety first

More on our BMW rim repair page.

Cabin

Leather and trim scratches

Leather scuffs, scratched gloss black panels and marked door cards need different products and techniques from exterior paint, and the wrong cleaner can make them worse.

  • Leather scuffs and colour wear on seat bolsters
  • Scratched gloss black and aluminium trims
  • Marked door cards, sills and kick plates

See BMW seat repair and interior trim.

Our process

How We Repair a BMW Scratch

Good scratch repair is mostly preparation and patience. Preparation, the chosen repair method and curing all affect the result. We explain the finish to expect before work starts.

Inspect

Measure the damage

Cleaned damage, existing repairs and finish assessed under suitable light. Coating measurements, where appropriate, inform correction limits rather than proving the depth of an individual scratch.

Clean

Decontaminate

Wax, sand, tar and grime removed so nothing is trapped under new paint.

Prepare

Prepare for the chosen repair

Surrounding trim and adjacent surfaces protected. Preparation depends on whether the agreed work is polishing, touch-up or refinishing.

Paint

Colour and clear coat

For repainting, use the compatible colour and finish system. Agree any adjacent-panel blending first. Polish-only jobs do not receive replacement colour coats.

Finish

Cure and finish appropriately

Allow the specified curing time. Finish gloss repairs as appropriate for the paint system. Frozen matte finishes must not receive gloss polishing.

Check

Daylight inspection

Checked outside in daylight from different angles before handover, so the repair is judged where you will see it.

Is it worth fixing

When BMW Scratch Repair Pays Off

Not every small mark needs attention straight away, and some can wait until your next service. These are the situations where fixing a scratch sooner usually saves money or trouble later.

Selling or trading in

Before a sale

Buyers and dealers notice scratches first, and visible damage gives them a reason to lower their offer. A tidy body helps the car present well in photos and on inspection.

Bare metal showing

Before rust starts

Once a scratch reaches steel, moisture and salty coastal air can start rust under the paint. Early assessment helps address exposed steel before corrosion spreads. Aluminium and plastic require different treatment and do not develop steel rust.

Lease or company car

Before a return inspection

Lease and company cars are checked for damage when they go back. Check the return standards and obtain approval where required before repairing leased or company vehicles. A repair does not guarantee that return charges will be waived.

After the repair

Keeping New Scratches Away

Once the paint is right again, a little protection goes a long way in Dubai. Sun, sand and busy parking areas will keep testing the finish, so it pays to guard the spots that get hit most.

Clear protection film being applied to the door edge of a BMW

Protection film on high risk areas

Clear film on bumpers, door edges, handle cups and the boot lip takes the scrapes instead of your paint, and it can be replaced when worn. See BMW paint protection.

Wash gently

Rinse sand off first and use clean mitts, never brushes or dry cloths that drag grit across the paint.

Park with space

End bays and wider spaces cut door dings and scrapes from neighbouring cars.

Fold mirrors when parked

When safely parked in a tight space, folding mirrors can reduce exposure to passing contact. Keep mirrors positioned for visibility while driving.

Fix chips early

Assess chips exposing steel before corrosion develops. Repair needs depend on the substrate and existing damage.

Before you try it yourself

Scratch Pens and Home Polishes on a BMW

DIY products vary. Some suit minor defects on compatible gloss finishes, but they cannot all repair missing paint. Check the product instructions and surface type before use, and avoid abrasive correction on Frozen matte paint.

Scratch pens

Products may contain paint, clear coating or fillers. They may reduce visibility but do not necessarily remove the defect or restore the original finish.

Rough compounds

Heavy compound by hand can dull a wide area and cut through thin clear coat, especially on edges and creases.

Touch up bottles

A compatible touch-up can protect and reduce the visibility of a small chip. Texture and colour differences may remain; it is not the same result as a panel refinish.

Wrong colour

A near match from a generic shade stands out on metallic and pearl BMW colours from most angles.

Not sure if it is worth fixing? Send a photo and we tell you honestly what it needs, even if the answer is a simple polish. For a deep clean and gloss boost, see BMW car detailing, and for larger damage see our BMW body shop.

Al Quoz workshop

Know what happens before and after the repair

Our independent BMW workshop is at 39 Al Quoz 4, Dubai, open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm. Free pickup in Dubai is available for suitable vehicles. Call to discuss the damage and appointment availability.

Before work

Agree the finish and repair area

Compare a visible but economical touch-up with a more extensive refinish. Confirm the panels, colour-matching approach, any blending and the quoted warranty terms, including exclusions.

Plan collection

Allow for materials and curing

Working time and collection time can differ. Repair size, paint-system curing, parts or trim requirements and workshop availability affect completion. Confirm the expected handover time after inspection.

At handover

Review the finish and care advice

Inspect the agreed repair under suitable light. Check affected trim and functions. Request care instructions for washing and for applying wax, ceramic coating or PPF, following the refinish-system requirements.

How long will you need my BMW?

It depends on the method, area, materials and curing requirements. A polishing job and a multi-panel refinish have different schedules. Confirm the appointment and collection estimate after inspection rather than assuming a same-day repair.

Can you repair a scratch in PPF or ceramic coating?

First establish whether the mark is in the film, coating or paint beneath it. Damaged film may need replacement; paint repair may require removal and later reapplication of protection. Confirm this separately in the quote and follow the coating, film and refinish instructions.

When can I wash or protect repainted panels?

Follow the specific paint-system aftercare supplied at handover. Washing, polishing, waxing, ceramic coating and film application can have different waiting periods. There is no single curing time suitable for every repair.

Is there a warranty on scratch repair?

Request the written terms for the quoted work before approval, including coverage, duration and exclusions. New impact damage, existing paint issues and aftercare requirements should be distinguished from the workmanship covered.

How much does BMW scratch repair cost in Dubai?

The fitted price depends on damage, finish and repair area. Ask for an itemised quote for polishing, touch-up or repainting, including labour, materials and applicable VAT. A photo estimate may change after inspection; any additional work should be agreed first.

Can a scratch be removed without painting?

Some shallow defects on gloss clear coat can be improved or removed without repainting. The remaining coating, previous repairs and scratch depth determine what is safe; full removal is not always appropriate.

How do I know how deep my scratch is?

A fingernail check and photos provide clues but cannot identify the damaged paint layer reliably. Inspect the cleaned finish before choosing polishing, touch-up or repainting.

Will the repaired paint match my BMW?

The paint code is a starting point. Compare the colour variant, existing finish and application requirements. Agree any blending and the expected appearance; a touch-up may remain visible even with the correct colour.

Can you polish frozen matte BMW paint?

No. Matte finishes should not be polished like gloss paint, so tell us before any work if your car has frozen paint.

Do you repair scratches on plastic bumpers?

Yes. Repair and preparation depend on the plastic, paint system and damage. Sensor and radar areas require the applicable vehicle-specific refinishing restrictions and checks.

Can you fix kerbed rims?

Yes. Light kerb rash can be refinished, and bent or cracked wheels are checked first.

Do scratch pens work on BMWs?

It depends on the product and defect. Paint pens can reduce the visibility of small chips but may leave texture or colour differences. Fillers do not replace missing paint layers.

Should I fix a scratch that shows bare metal quickly?

Arrange an assessment of exposed steel promptly because corrosion can develop. The substrate and damage determine the repair; do not assume aluminium or plastic behaves like steel.

Do you collect the car?

Yes. We offer free pickup in Dubai, and the work is done at our Al Quoz workshop, open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm.
