Identify your engine and body style

Which BMW 630i do you drive?

The earlier 630i Coupé and Convertible use a petrol straight-six. The G32 630i Gran Turismo uses a turbo four-cylinder. Share the VIN and market before ordering parts or selecting a test.

E63630i Coupé

The earlier 3.0-litre naturally aspirated straight-six can have different fuel systems depending on build and market.

  • Identify N52 or N53 as applicable
  • Confirm the fitted automatic or manual gearbox
  • Match the cooling and brake parts to the VIN

E64630i Convertible

The E64 also uses a naturally aspirated petrol straight-six and adds a separate fabric-roof system.

  • Confirm the actual engine and fuel system
  • Mention roof or rear glass work
  • Check whether water reached the trim or boot
Share the last roof movement you saw
G32630i Gran Turismo

The G32 uses a 2.0-litre B48 turbo petrol engine in applicable markets. Identify the installed equipment by build.

  • Check turbo and cooling circuit fitment
  • Identify the automatic gearbox and service history
  • Confirm rear height control and tailgate equipment

Rough running and hesitation

What changes between the straight-six and turbo four?

Tell us whether the problem appears at the first cold start, at idle or when you accelerate. Tests follow the engine and fuel system fitted to the car.

Cooling system checks

Find which circuit is losing coolant

Tell us how often you top up and when the warning appears. A dry garage floor can hide a leak that collects above the undertray or occurs only when hot.

1
Confirm the reservoir

Identify the engine or charge-air cooling circuit where fitted.

2
Inspect for fresh traces

Check tank, cap, hoses and joints for deposits or wetness.

3
Pressure-test as indicated

Use the applicable procedure. A cold test can need follow-up for an intermittent leak.

4
Check temperature behaviour

Where overheating was reported, review circulation, fan or pump findings as indicated.

5
Explain what needs work

Identify the source and confirm access, fittings and coolant before approval.

6
Recheck after filling

Use the applicable filling and bleeding procedure and verify the level and leak area.

External oil leaks

Trace the source before pricing seals

An oil mark near the tray or a burning smell after parking does not tell us where the leak begins. Inspect the valve-cover and oil-filter housing areas where relevant, then trace fresh oil around joints and the undertray.

Tell us whether the leak started after service or a gasket repair. Ask which joint was confirmed, whether its housing also needs attention and what is included for access, seals and fluids.

Body movement and locking

E64 fabric roof or G32 power tailgate?

The E64 convertible roof and G32 powered tailgate have different mechanisms and controls. Tell us which movement failed first and whether it came after battery, glass, trim or body work.

On the E64, note whether the windows and rear cover moved before the roof stopped. On the G32, say whether the tailgate responds to the switch, stops at the same point or reaches the latch without locking.

E64 roof will not startReview roof conditions, supply voltage and relevant fault records.
E64 roof stops in motionRecord the position. The affected stage guides mechanism, hydraulic or position-signal checks as applicable.
G32 tailgate reverses or stopsCheck for binding or a position, wiring or drive fault based on operation.
Tailgate reaches the latchInspect alignment, the latch and the closed-position signal before choosing parts.

If the roof or tailgate is stuck in an unsafe position, keep clear, follow the handbook and call with the exact position before arranging collection.

Brake and steering symptoms

Does the shake follow braking, speed or bumps?

Report where you feel it, at what speed and whether it continues off the pedal. This guides the first check.

Only on the pedal

Brake measurements

Check the affected axle, pad and disc condition and fitted hardware. Ask for discs, pads and sensor to be itemised.

At the same speed

Tyres and wheels

Check tyre condition, wheel fitment and balance where indicated. Mention recent wheel work or an impact.

Over bumps or while steering

Chassis and alignment

Check relevant bushes, joints, hubs and dampers. Discuss alignment after the work where it applies.

If braking or steering feels unsafe or the display tells you to stop, pull over safely and follow the vehicle handbook.

Rear height control on the Gran Turismo

Does the rear settle while parked?

On a G32 with rear air suspension, take note of the affected corner and how long it takes to drop on level ground. If you drive an E63 or E64, we confirm its fitted suspension and assess the symptom separately.

What you noticeWhat we check

Transmission and driveline

When does the hesitation or shudder happen?

  1. Identify the unitSend VIN and year. On earlier cars confirm the transmission type; on G32 confirm the fitted Steptronic specification.
  2. Describe the momentSay whether it delays selecting Drive or Reverse, bumps during a specific shift or vibrates at a steady speed.
  3. Compare stored faultsReview relevant engine and gearbox records in context before recommending gearbox work.
  4. Check previous serviceInspect leakage and record fluid, pan, filter or earlier repairs when known.
  5. Separate wheel and driveline symptomsA road-speed vibration or a symptom that changes with load can need different checks from a shift fault.
  6. Agree the proposed workCompare scheduled fluid service, targeted repair or further diagnosis based on the results.
  7. Repeat the relevant checkConfirm the original symptom and which post-repair tests could be completed safely.

Battery and starting faults

Slow crank, no crank or normal crank without starting?

Describe what the engine does and whether lights or displays reset. Tell us if the fault followed parking, recent battery work or a hot restart. Repeated low-voltage warnings can justify checking both battery condition and the charging or parked-current history.

When it cranks normally without starting, follow the relevant ignition, fuel or authorisation clues. If it cranks slowly or not at all, check supply voltage, connections and starter operation where indicated.

Build the right service list

What is due on your BMW 630i?

Bring the mileage, service reminders and the last itemised invoice. Check the schedule against the fitted engine and keep fault diagnosis separate from routine service.

Schedule and records

  • Confirm the correct engine oil approval and fill quantity
  • Check plug and filter replacement history
  • Review the brake-fluid due date separately from pad and disc wear
  • Identify the fitted gearbox before selecting fluid or filter service
  • Keep an invoice of completed work and updated reminders

Checks from actual condition

  • Ask for measured disc, pad and tyre condition
  • Report any recurring oil or coolant top-up
  • Mention repeated battery warnings or slow cranking
  • Tell us about wheel impacts, uneven wear or recent alignment
  • Share any outstanding roof, tailgate or ride-height symptom

Ask the workshop to separate scheduled items, measured wear and work that needs further diagnosis. Confirm each fitted total before approval.

BMW 630i repair questions

Find out what to send the workshop and how to plan your visit.

How much does a BMW 630i scan cost?

The initial fault-code scan and report starts from AED 150. Leak tracing, mechanical checks or detailed electrical tests may be quoted separately.

Is 630i oil service priced the same for every model?

The earlier straight-six and G32 four-cylinder use different specifications and quantities. Confirm the engine, approved oil and fitted quote by VIN.

Can I book a service and a coolant check together?

Yes. Bring the service reminders and tell us which reservoir loses coolant, when it happens and how often you top up. Each item can be priced separately.

Does a low rear corner always need a compressor?

No. A leak, line, spring, valve or level-control fault can affect parked height. Confirm the fitted suspension and what the measurements show before ordering parts.

Can you check an E64 soft top or a G32 tailgate?

Share the body type, warning and last movement. We can confirm the next diagnostic steps for the fitted mechanism and any suitable collection arrangements.

What affects the repair time?

Assessment time, reproducing the fault, parts supply, access and final checks all affect timing. Ask when findings and a completion estimate will be available.

Can you collect a BMW 630i in Dubai?

Free Dubai pickup and delivery are available by arrangement. If the car cannot move, is overheating or displays a stop instruction, describe its condition so the workshop can discuss suitable recovery.
