How Much Does BMW Head Gasket Repair Cost in Dubai?

BMW head gasket replacement is a labour-intensive engine repair. For initial budgeting, published Dubai luxury-car guides suggest roughly AED 3,500–7,000 or more. This is general market guidance, not a fixed offer from BMW Repair Dubai or a quotation for your particular engine. A damaged cylinder head, work on both banks or wider engine damage can push the bill above this range.

This guide explains how to compare quotations. For diagnosis, repair options and workshop enquiries, visit our BMW head gasket repair service in Dubai.

What changes the repair cost?

The model badge alone is not enough to price the job. Model year, engine code, parts availability and previous overheating all matter. Two BMWs with the same model name may have different engines and different access requirements.

  • Engine layout and access influence the labour needed to remove the cylinder head and restore the timing. On engines with two banks, confirm whether the quotation covers one head or both.
  • Head and block condition determine whether a gasket replacement is appropriate. Cracks, distortion or damaged threads can require additional work or replacement components.
  • Parts specification includes the correct gasket design and thickness, required replacement bolts, disturbed seals and suitable fluids. A gasket kit does not automatically include every item needed.
  • The original fault may require a separate cooling repair. A leaking hose, faulty thermostat or water pump should be diagnosed rather than automatically added to every job.
  • Previous repairs and contamination can add inspection and cleaning work. Tell the workshop about overheating incidents, prior dismantling and any cooling-system additives.

Separate diagnosis, dismantling and the repair

A full repair price cannot always be confirmed before the engine is opened. Agree on three clear stages so that an initial estimate does not become an open-ended authorisation.

  1. Initial diagnosis checks the reported symptoms and likely alternatives. Ask which tests are proposed, what they cost and whether the charge is credited against later work.
  2. Authorised dismantling exposes the gasket and sealing surfaces where initial evidence justifies it. Confirm labour charges, the inspection plan and the cost of reassembly or transport if you decide not to continue.
  3. Final repair approval follows inspection of the head, block and related parts. Ask for any additional work and revised total in writing before it begins.

A chemical combustion-gas test or a low compression reading does not by itself distinguish every gasket, cylinder-head and engine-block fault. The quotation should reflect what is known at each stage.

What should a fitted quotation include?

ItemWhat to confirm
Diagnostic workTests already completed, results and any further checks proposed.
Strip down and assemblyLabour for the specified engine and bank, timing work and required replacement fasteners.
Head and block inspectionMeasurements and testing, with machine-shop charges listed where applicable.
Replacement partsGasket and seal list, brands or parts route, compatibility and availability.
Fluids and cleaningCorrect coolant, oil, filter and necessary contamination cleanup.
Related repairsSeparately approved work addressing the cause of overheating or other diagnosed damage.
Completion checksCoolant bleeding, leak checks, temperature and engine-operation checks, and a cold level recheck.
Total and conditionsVAT, transport, any exclusions, payment stages and written warranty coverage.

A low gasket-only parts price cannot be compared with a fitted repair total. Likewise, an advertised diagnostic scan price is not the price of complete head gasket diagnosis or replacement. Ask what each amount actually covers.

Does the cylinder head always need machining?

No. Machining must be permitted for the particular engine and must meet the required dimensions and surface finish. Inspection may show that the head can be reused, that an allowed repair is possible, or that replacement is needed. The block sealing surface also needs assessment.

A quotation that automatically includes skimming every BMW cylinder head needs clarification. Ask for the findings and the applicable repair limits before approving the work.

When does a replacement head or engine make more sense?

A serviceable head and block can make gasket replacement a reasonable repair. If the head is cracked or outside repair limits, compare the cost and availability of a compatible new or reconditioned head. Ask what testing and warranty accompany it.

If overheating or contaminated oil has caused wider damage, request a comparison with BMW engine repair or replacement. Compare the complete fitted cost, engine condition, included ancillaries, labour and warranty exclusions. The cheapest component price alone does not establish the best choice for an older car.

Is sealant a cheaper head gasket repair?

Cooling-system sealant is not equivalent to replacing a failed head gasket. It cannot correct a cracked head or an unsuitable sealing surface. Do not treat an additive price as a competing permanent repair quotation. Tell the technician if sealant has already been added so that it can be considered during diagnosis and cleaning.

How long should you allow?

Plan for several days rather than a few hours. Dismantling, head assessment, parts supply, any permitted specialist work and final checks affect the timetable. Ask for an estimated completion window after diagnosis and an update if inspection changes the scope. A completion date should not be promised before parts and specialist availability are known.

What warranty should you ask about?

Request the actual written terms for the approved repair. Confirm the covered parts and labour, duration or mileage limit, exclusions and the process if symptoms return. Do not assume every replacement head, supplied part or additional cooling repair has identical coverage.

Keep the quotation, authorisation record, invoice and diagnostic findings together. These provide more useful evidence than an unsupported promise that a repair is permanent.

Request a quotation for your BMW

Send the model, year, engine or VIN, mileage, symptoms and overheating history. Include any existing test results or quotation you want explained. BMW Repair Dubai is an independent workshop in Al Quoz. Contact us to discuss the diagnostic stage and the information needed for a repair estimate.

If the engine is overheating, stop safely and switch it off. Do not open a hot coolant cap or drive it to obtain a quotation. Ask about recovery arrangements and charges.
