BMW i8 Coupe and Roadster
BMW i8 Repair in Dubai
Book i8 maintenance or get a charging problem, hybrid warning or petrol engine fault assessed. Start with the warning text and when it appeared. Initial fault scans start from AED 150 at our independent Al Quoz workshop.

What an i8 visit can cost
Ask for the complete fitted quote and VAT treatment before approving work. The estimate depends on the affected system and test results.
For a hybrid battery or charging quote, ask which component the tests point to and whether programming, setup and final testing are included.
Find your starting point
What is your BMW i8 doing
Choose the symptom closest to yours to see what to report and where checks begin.
It will not wake up
Tell us whether the locks, dash or lights respond. A 12V supply check can help explain why several systems appear offline.
It will not charge
Tell us whether charging fails to start or cuts out. Mention the charging location, equipment and any error it displayed.
Electric range has dropped
Share recent charge levels, trip conditions and whether a hybrid warning appeared. An estimated range reading by itself gives limited information about battery condition.
Petrol engine runs roughly
Note whether it happens at startup, when the petrol engine joins in, or under acceleration. We can use fault records to guide the next checks.
Coolant level keeps falling
Share any warning and where you saw a puddle or dried residue. Diagnosis starts by identifying the affected circuit.
A door or roof will not close
Tell us which door is affected or where the Roadster roof stops in its cycle. Include any latch or window issue you noticed first.
Before your visit
What to do when a warning appears
Follow the exact dashboard instruction and the vehicle handbook. If you are unsure whether the car can be driven, contact us to discuss how to get it assessed.
Record the message
For a recurring warning, share the wording, when it appeared and whether the car was charging, starting or moving.
Ask about recovery
If the car cannot enter ready mode or the display tells you to stop, move to safety if possible and arrange assistance.
Leave high-voltage parts alone
Keep clear of exposed cables or damaged electrical parts. Tell the workshop or recovery provider about collision damage or flooding before handling the car.
If the dashboard tells you to stop, follow the vehicle handbook and arrange assistance.
Plug-in charging
Find where charging stops
Tell us if the plug fails to lock, the charging session never begins, or it stops after a few minutes. If you already tried another compatible charger, tell us what changed. See what a charging diagnosis covers.
Charging equipment Note any error shown by the cable or charge point.
Charge inlet Describe a latch problem or visible connector damage without forcing the plug.
Onboard charger Fault data helps guide the checks when the external supply and connection are ruled out.
Confirm the test Ask which part of the charging system the workshop will assess first.
Two separate electrical systems
12V battery or hybrid battery
The 12V supply powers vehicle electronics. The high-voltage traction battery stores energy for electric drive. A warning alone does not identify which system needs work.
Powers vehicle electronics and helps the car wake up when you unlock it.
If the dash stays dark or several warnings appear together, ask for a 12V supply check.
Confirm the fitted battery specification and whether registration is included.
Stores energy for the electric motor. A hybrid warning alone does not identify a battery fault.
Ask whether findings point to the battery, charging equipment or temperature control.
If battery work is indicated, confirm the scope, parts availability and written cover. See hybrid battery options.
Petrol engine and electric drive
Separate a petrol fault from an eDrive warning
The i8 uses a rear 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor driving the front wheels. Tell us which mode you were in when the fault appeared.
Rough running
Note whether the fault starts when the petrol engine cuts in or only under load. The workshop can use fault records to guide ignition, fuel or air supply checks.
Loss of electric drive
Share the state of charge and the exact warning. Ask which tests can separate an electric drive fault from a battery or charging problem.
Jolt when the drive mode changes
Tell us whether it happens when pulling away, changing speed or switching drive modes. The conditions help narrow the system to check first.
Share the warning wording, state of charge and driving conditions so the workshop can choose the first checks.
Cooling system
Trace coolant loss to the right circuit
The i8 has separate thermal systems. The workshop identifies which circuit is losing coolant before quoting repairs.
What to share
- Exact dashboard message
- How often the level drops
- Where you saw residue or a puddle
- Any recent cooling system work
- Any coolant added since the warning
What to confirm
- Which circuit needs testing
- How the workshop will trace the leak
- The approved coolant for the circuit
- The correct filling and bleeding procedure
- Final leak and function checks
Follow the dashboard instructions and handbook if the warning returns. See coolant leak testing.
Doors and bodywork
Check how the door moves and seals
Tell us if the door feels heavy, will not latch or lets water in. Mention any recent glass, trim or body repairs around the opening.
Model and body style
Identify the i8 you drive
BMW increased gross traction battery capacity from 7.1 to 11.6 kWh with the updated i8. Confirm the build date and fitted parts by VIN before ordering components.
i8 Coupe
- Fixed roof and upward-opening doors
- Earlier and updated Coupes use different battery specifications
- Report which side has wind noise or water ingress
i8 Roadster
- Powered fabric roof and updated traction battery
- Report where the roof stops in its cycle
- Confirm whether the roof latches and where water appears
Planned maintenance
Book the work your i8 is due for
Bring the service reminder or recent invoices if available. Mention any warning you want checked on the same visit.
Engine oil and filter
Confirm the oil specification and fill quantity for the petrol engine.
Filters and plugs
Check the service history for air filters and spark plugs. Ask what the current visit includes.
Brakes and tyres
Check the brake fluid due date, pad and disc condition, and correct tyre fitment.
Brakes and tyres
Explain when you feel the vibration
Tell us whether the vibration comes through the steering wheel, pedal or seat. The conditions help us choose the first checks.
We inspect the affected axle and assess the fitted pads and discs.
- Note whether the brake pedal pulses
- Ask what the measurements show
- Check which parts the quote covers
A speed-related vibration can call for a separate wheel and tyre check.
- Note the speed at which it starts
- Mention visible tyre wear or damage
- Share any recent alignment work
Tell us which wheels or tyres were changed and when the vibration appeared.
- Share the fitted sizes if available
- Mention whether the car pulls to one side
- Ask what checks can confirm the cause
Used i8 inspection
Check a used i8 before buying
Ask what can be assessed in one visit and whether the seller can make the car, charge equipment and service records available.
Arrange access and records
- Charging equipment
Ask the seller to make compatible equipment available for a charging check. - Service records
Compare the display with invoices and note previous battery, cooling or electrical work. - Doors and roof
Check both doors. On a Roadster, ask to see a complete roof cycle.
Decide what to budget for
- Repair history
Ask about accident repairs around the door openings or underbody. - Work needed soon
Separate immediate repairs from items that can be monitored. - Further testing
Ask what can be assessed in one visit and which concerns need more investigation.
Ask which findings affect your purchase budget before agreeing to buy.
Common booking questions
BMW i8 repair FAQs
Does the BMW i8 need an oil change
Yes. The i8 has a petrol engine that needs oil and filter service. Use the service display and records to confirm when it is due.
Does a charging fault mean the traction battery needs replacement
Charging equipment, the inlet and the onboard charging system can all affect a session. Testing helps identify what needs repair.
Can you quote an i8 battery from the VIN
The VIN helps identify the fitted specification. Share the symptoms too so the workshop can separate a 12V supply issue from a high-voltage or charging fault.
How long will the repair take
Timing depends on the tests needed and parts availability. Ask how long to allow for the first visit and when the workshop can confirm repair timing.
