Before you book a camera job

BMW Rear Camera Replacement Cost in Dubai

By the BMW Repair Dubai workshop team . Updated November 2026

Quick answer

The BMW rear camera replacement cost in Dubai depends on what has actually failed. A genuine BMW reversing camera alone was listed by a European BMW parts seller at around EUR 426 in November 2026. A camera control unit can cost more than the camera, and fitting, coding and calibration are charged on top.

Many black screen faults turn out to be wiring in the boot lid, which costs far less than a new camera. Testing first is what keeps the bill down. If the picture has already gone, start with our BMW camera malfunction repair in Dubai page.

Where the money goes

What Drives the BMW Rear Camera Replacement Cost

Two owners with the same black screen can pay very different amounts. The final figure comes from six things, and only one of them is the camera itself. Knowing them helps you read a quote and spot a price that does not add up.

  1. The part that failedA camera, a control unit, a connector or a cracked wire in the boot hinge. Each has a very different price, so the diagnosis sets the budget.
  2. Your camera systemA car with rear view only has fewer parts in the chain than one with Top View or Surround View, where several cameras share one controller.
  3. Parts routeGenuine new, genuine used or an aftermarket copy. The gap between them is large, and so is the gap in fit and picture quality.
  4. Access labourThe camera usually sits in the boot lid handle or tailgate trim. Removing trim and clips without damage takes time on some models.
  5. Coding and setupA new control unit normally needs programming or coding. Cars with a stitched view from above may also need the camera positions set.
  6. Small parts and sealsChrome handle covers, gaskets and clips are often missed on the first quote, then added once the trim is off.

The EUR prices are parts only, before shipping, import and fitting. A Dubai parts counter may price the same part number differently.

The aftermarket price is for a handle camera only. It may not match the signal or connector of a factory BMW camera system.

Labour and calibration figures come from general camera work, not a fixed BMW rear camera tariff.

Repair vs replace

Is a New Camera Worth It or Will a Wiring Fix Do?

The lowest first bill is not always the lowest total. This table compares the two routes by what you pay, how long it lasts and what can go wrong later.

CompareRepair what you haveReplace the camera
When it fitsCracked wires in the boot hinge loom, a loose or corroded connector, or a fuse or supply fault. The camera fails its tests with correct power and a sound signal path, or the lens and housing are damaged.
What you pay forFault tracing, trim access and repair materials. No camera part. The camera, trim access, small parts and any setup the system needs.
Relative costUsually the lower bill, because the most expensive part stays in the car.Higher, and it rises again if the control unit is also at fault.
Time off the roadOften done once the fault is found, with no wait for parts.Depends on part supply. A genuine part may need to be ordered.
Risk of paying twiceLow if the whole loom section is checked, higher if only one wire is patched.High if the camera is swapped without testing, because the real fault can be the wiring.
Ask before you approveWhich wires were damaged and how the repair is protected from boot movement.Which test failed, the part number and whether coding or calibration is included.

A useful rule is to ask for the test result behind any replacement. A camera that is condemned only because the screen is black has not really been diagnosed, and that is how owners end up buying two cameras for one fault.

It also helps to think about how long you will keep the car. If you plan to sell within months, a tested wiring repair or a good used genuine camera usually makes more sense than a new part. If you plan to keep the car for years, paying once for a genuine camera and a fresh seal can work out cheaper than two smaller repairs.

Parts route

Genuine, Used or Aftermarket Camera for Your BMW

Once a camera really has failed, the part you choose sets most of the cost. Here is how the three routes compare on the points that matter for a factory BMW system.

Highest cost

Genuine new camera

Price signal
Hundreds of euros for the camera alone, before fitting, as the published table shows.
Fit
Matched by part number and VIN, so the connector, mount and signal suit the car.
Picture and guide lines
Works with the factory parking view, overlays and other cameras where fitted.
Watch for
Supersessions. Older part numbers are often replaced by a newer one, so check by VIN.
Middle cost

Genuine used camera

Price signal
Usually well below new. The price depends on mileage, condition and seller.
Fit
The same factory part, if the number matches your car and options.
Picture and guide lines
As good as the unit. Haze, moisture or a tired sensor carry over with it.
Watch for
Water marks inside the lens and a damaged plug. Test it on the car before the trim goes back.
Lowest cost

Aftermarket copy

Price signal
The lowest figure, with handle cameras listed in the UAE for little more than AED 100.
Fit
Often built to look like the BMW part, but the signal type and plug can differ.
Picture and guide lines
May lose factory overlays or need an extra interface to show on iDrive.
Watch for
Cars with Top View or Surround View, where a copy camera rarely works with the controller.

Our view as a workshop is simple. On a car with only a rear camera, a good used genuine unit is often the sensible middle ground. On a car with several cameras working together, a genuine part avoids a second visit. Whichever route you choose, agree it in writing before the part is ordered.

Model by model

Camera Costs by BMW Generation and Model

The chassis generation tells you how many parts sit between the lens and the screen. More parts in the chain means more places a fault can hide, and a wider spread of possible costs.

BMW tailgate with inner trim removed and camera wiring exposed
E chassisE60, E70, E71, E90

Many E series cars with a factory camera use a separate camera control unit in the boot or tailgate. A black screen can come from the camera, that control unit or the cable to the head unit. Some cars here also carry aftermarket cameras added later.

Cost note. Check whether the car has a factory or added camera before pricing any part.

F chassisF10, F15, F25, F30, F32

The same genuine reversing camera, part 66539240351, is listed by parts sellers for many F series models and the late E70 X5. Cars with Top View or Side View add a TRSVC control unit that handles several cameras at once.

Cost note. A rear only car is usually a camera or wiring job. A TRSVC car may also need the controller checked.

G chassisG01, G05, G20, G30

G series cars use ICAM camera electronics, and many have Parking Assistant or Surround View with several cameras. The rear camera part number varies with options, so the VIN decides which camera fits.

Cost note. Expect setup work after a camera or controller change, and ask for it to be listed on the quote.

Retrofits change all of this. If a camera, screen or CarPlay box was added after the car left the factory, the fault can sit in that added interface. See our BMW CarPlay service page if your screen was replaced.

Hidden Costs That Appear After the Quote

A camera price that looks low on the phone can grow once the trim is off. These are the add ons that most often surprise owners. None of them is unusual, but each should be on the quote before you approve the work.

If you want to compare camera work with other BMW running costs, our post on real BMW repair costs in Dubai gives the wider picture.

One question that saves moneyAsk whether the price is for the part you need or for the part someone guessed. A quote built on a test result rarely grows. A quote built on a guess often does. Our BMW camera malfunction page explains how that testing works.
Chrome handle cover or trimSmall partThe camera often sits in the boot handle. A brittle chrome cover can crack on removal and need replacing.
Camera gasket and clipsSmall partA new seal keeps water out of the new camera. Reusing a tired one can bring the same fault back.
Boot hinge loom repairLabourIf the wires that flex with the boot are cracked, a new camera alone will not fix the picture.
Coding or programmingSetupReplacing a control unit usually needs it coded to the car. Some cameras need it too.
Calibration of the viewsSetupCars that stitch several cameras into one view may need the camera position set after work.
Second diagnosis visitTimeIntermittent faults that cannot be reproduced on the day may need the car kept longer.

How to Compare Two Camera Quotes in Dubai

Put both quotes next to this list. The one that ticks more boxes is usually the better value, even if its total is a little higher.

  • The fault is namedThe quote says what failed, not just that the camera is not working.
  • A test supports itYou are told which check failed, such as no picture with correct power at the camera.
  • Part number shownThe camera or control unit is listed by BMW part number and matched to your VIN.
  • Parts route agreedNew genuine, used genuine or aftermarket is stated, not left open.
  • Small parts includedGasket, clips and any handle cover are priced, or noted as not needed.
  • Setup is listedCoding and calibration are either included or clearly excluded.
  • Every view is checkedThe handover covers the rear view, guide lines and other views where fitted.
  • Recall checked firstFor a newer car, you have checked the VIN with an authorised BMW dealer for open campaigns.

Signs you need it now

Signs It Is Time to Book Instead of Waiting

Some camera faults stay the same for months. Others get worse and pull more parts into the repair. Here is how to judge how soon to book.

Plan it in

The picture works but looks poor

  • Haze that stays after cleaning the lens
  • Guide lines missing or off centre
  • One section of the top view looks wrong
  • Picture changed after bodywork

Water inside a camera is the one to act on fast. Moisture can travel down the cable and corrode the plug, turning a camera job into a camera and wiring job. If the whole iDrive screen freezes as well, the cause may be wider than the camera, and our post on BMW iDrive lag covers that.

Questions before booking

BMW Rear Camera Cost Questions

Short answers to what owners ask when they are pricing a camera job.

How much does it cost to replace a BMW rear camera in Dubai?

It depends on the fault and the part route. A genuine camera alone was listed by a European parts seller at around EUR 426 when we checked in November 2026, while a wiring repair needs no camera at all. We give one price after testing, so you only pay for the part that has failed.

Is it cheaper to repair the wiring than to buy a new camera?

Usually yes. Cracked wires in the boot hinge loom are a common cause of a black screen, and fixing them keeps the original camera. Testing shows which one you need.

Should I buy a genuine or an aftermarket camera for my BMW?

For a car with several cameras working together, a genuine part avoids compatibility trouble. For a rear only car, a used genuine camera is often good value. An aftermarket copy is the lowest price but may lose factory guide lines.

Does a new BMW rear camera need coding?

A replacement control unit normally does. A camera on its own often does not, but cars that join several views together may need the camera position set. The quote should say which applies to your car.

Can I bring my own camera part?

Talk to us first and send the part number. We will tell you whether it matches your VIN and options before you spend money on it.

How long does a camera job take?

A wiring repair is often finished once the fault is found. A genuine part that needs ordering adds waiting time, and an intermittent fault may need the car kept longer to reproduce it.

Do you collect the car for a camera repair?

Yes, pickup is free anywhere in Dubai. Our workshop is at 39 Al Quoz 4 and is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm.
